SILVER LAKE CATFISH OUTING
Chairman: Bernie Babb (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Saturday September 17th, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.
Eighteen SSA club members fished the annual catfish outing held at Silver Lake. This is always one of the best attended outings we have each year. We have been very fortunate that the trustees at Silver Lake have sanctioned the outing. We all know this is a private members only lake. Years ago Bill Rust hosted the outing and now John Lepkowski has been hosting the outing.
Our Club is very fortunate to have John willing to host this outing for the past several years. John spends a lot of time making sure the event takes place. The next time you see John say thanks!
The weather was overcast and looked like rain all day. Fortunately we only had about 45 minutes of rain early in the outing. I know everyone wanted to get the fishing in. Silver Lake is in the process of lowering the lake to fix the sea wall next to the swimming beach. This caused a little extra time to launch and retrieve boats. With a little help from me all boats were launched and retrieved with no problems.
The fishing for catfish was just short of phenomenal, as everyone caught many fish. This is the kind of outing that is fun for all and helps keep members in the Club. The biggest fish was 29 inches caught by Bill Abbott. Maybe at the next meeting he will tell us what he used. Second place was won by Lance Speas with a 28 1/2 inch fish, and third place was John Greathouse with a 27 1/2 inch fish. Just wait until you see how much the winner will receive.
I measured the fish by the bench bearing Bill Rust's name and there were catfish everywhere. John has an exact count but I would say around 50 fish. The lake manager, Cliff was there to open the park for us and see that everything went ok during the outing, thanks Cliff!
I would like to thank all SSA members who fished the outing for following all Silver Lake's, and my rules . As far as I know the outing went off without a hitch and I am hopeful they will allow us to come back next year.
A big thanks to Keith Gibbs for taking pictures to remember the outing. Now Shockley will not be mad at me. Keith posted them on facebook. Hopefully Keith Doyle or Bernie Shockley can get a couple pictures to use in our newsletter.
Your outings chairman, Bernie Babb
